The VMEC Summer Scholar Program offers sophomores, juniors and seniors attending a university in Virginia the opportunity for hands on research and development in microelectronics in either an academic or industrial environment. You are also eligible to apply if you are a student at a community college in Virginia and have been accepted to one of the participating 4-year engineering schools. You can also apply if you are a graduating senior and have been accepted into a graduate school at one of the Virginia universities.

The Poster/Presentation Session for 2026 Summer Scholars will be held on August 10, 2026 at George Mason University in Manassas, VA.

The Summer Scholars need to register for the event and upload their presentation summarizing the work performed during their internship.  The presentation is limited to four (4) minutes. Structure your talk into four key sections: a 30-second introduction, a 2-minute core project overview, a 1-minute impact summary, and a 30-second future outlook.

The Summer Scholars also need to prepare a Poster summarizing their work.  The maximum poster size is 48″ by 36″. Easels and clips will be provided. Both the oral presentations and the posters will be judged and the top four will receive VMEC Gold Awards with $250 prize each.
